 19th Melody Amber:
Carlsen and Ivanchuk share victory
The 19th Amber Blindfold and Rapid tournament,
organized by the Association Max Euwe in Monaco,
took place March 13th - 25th at the Palais de la Mediterranée, splendidly located on
the famous Promenade des Anglais in Nice. The total prize-fund was € 216,000.
Magnus Carlsen and Vasily Ivanchuk were the joint winners of this 2010 Amber tournament.
The made exactly the same result at both the Blindfold and the Rapid events. In
the Blindfold competition they scored 6.5/11, sharing 2nd to 4th place with
Kramnik, at 1.5 point distance of Grischuk, who scored a remarkable 8/11 to be
the clear winner. In the Rapid competition Ivanchuk and Carlsen shared the first
place with 8/11, followed by Kramnik and Karjakin who made 6.5/11.
At the combined standings, Ivanchuk and Carlsen shared victory with 14.5/22 while
Kramnik was clear third with 13/22. It has to be noted that while
the official Website makes no distinction between
the winners, Ivanchuk won both games against Carlsen, precisely at the first
round.
For Vladimir Kramnik it was a very good, solid result, along the same line of
strong performances that he's been achieving during the last months.
